It's Joever... We see another finale of a semester. It was a lot of fun working with Melih Kır, completing tasks after tasks, preparing materials for our future students. Before closing the scene, I would like to answer a few questions.
1. What are the strengths and weakness of the course?
I think the sole strength of this course was teaching us the most recent ways to teach English. I mean, to be honest, I would eye-roll to the idea of a flipped classroom. But after this course, I was totally convinced that it is possible. The downside was that the tasks were to jammed together, one task after another. Instead of a week, I think working on bigger projects for 2 or 3 weeks would be more permanent in our minds.
2. What did you find easy or difficult about the course?
It is the same, the tasks. Some tasks were really hard, like corpus task, and some tasks were really easy, like VR task.
3. What was your most and least favourite task? Explain your choices.
My favorite one was Flipped Classroom task. As I mentioned above, it seemed impossible to implement this idea of learning in the home and adjustments in the classroom. The least favorite one was Corpus. I still don't think I will teach it to my students, heck, I don't even think I will ever use it. But, you know, never say never!
4. What would be your suggestion to improve it?
It's present in the 1st question, which involves longer working time for bigger projects. Maybe we could prepare 2 completely different materials for the same topic. 2 tasks for VR, 2 for Flipped Classroom, etc.
5. What would you tell to the students who would take this course next year?
"Abandon all hope ye who enter here"
-Dante's Inferno
But seriously, choose your partner wisely, don't procrastinate, write your blogs like you mean it, come to the classroom in time.
6. How would this course contribute to your professional development?
I plan to use most of this knowledge in my teachings and use this blog as a part of my resume, if I ever plan to apply for a job. Also, when I am 50, I will return to this blog, re-read the half-serious half-goofy blog posts and remember the past, maybe shed some tears remembering my ol' trust partner Lord Kır. Now I gottcha, didn't I?
I want to close the scene with one of my favorite songs, all best-wishes to Mr. Uğur Üzer, my past Oral Communication instructor who recommended this rock band, and changed my view on people.
